Programme Overview

 

The course aims to provide students with an understanding of the managerial, decision-making and leadership aspects of the hospitality industry. Managerial competencies are developed in Food and Beverage Management, Facilities Management, Customer Relationship Management, Marketing, Human Resources and Finance. In addition, it is also designed to develop independent research and study skills required when working at senior managerial level in the industry. It is therefore an excellent preparation for entry to the workplace.


Full time students spent 50% of the course duration in industry to gain relevant work experience suitable for immediate employment upon completion of the course with the necessary theoretical underpinnings to progress into managerial positions. The Level 5 Advanced Programme is also a springboard into a second or final year bachelors degree at a selected international universities abroad for those students who aspire to pursue degree studies oversees. Alternatively, students may elect to progress to the Level 6 Pro-Graduate Programme.


Entrance Requirements

  • Completed the CTH Level 4 Diploma in Hospitality Management, or have been granted an exemption from this.


Study Options

  • 12 months full time (6 months theory and 6 months industry experiential learning) starting February and July
  • 18 months part time (12 months theory and maximum 6 months assignment research projects) starting February and July


Modules

  • Subject 1: Understanding funding and finance in tourism and hospitality: This unit covers understanding the concepts of financial management and accounting within a hospitality or tourism business; controlling the finances and managing the cash flow and manage the profitability of a department within a hospitality or tourism business.
  • Subject 2: Human resource management in the tourism and hospitality industry: This unit covers understanding the principles of human resource (HR) management in the tourism and hospitality industry; leading teams and developing human resources policies.
  • Subject 3: Strategic marketing in the tourism and hospitality industry: This unit covers contributing to the development of marketing and sales strategies in the tourism and hospitality industry; optimising marketing communications, building strategic partnerships, new product development and understanding the purpose and components of an organisational business plan.
  • Subject 4: Customer relationship management in the tourism and hospitality industry: This unit covers developing a customer service strategy in the tourism and hospitality industry; managing customer relationships (CRM) and evaluating customer service.
  • Subject 5: Contemporary issues in the tourism and hospitality industry: This unit covers understanding how to identify emerging issues in the tourism and hospitality industry and examining their impact.
  • Subject 6: Food and beverage management in the tourism and hospitality industry: This unit covers developing food and beverage operations, understanding the management of food and beverage operations and evaluating their effectiveness.
  • Subject 7: Facilities management of tourism and hospitality premises: This unit covers evaluating the role of a facilities manager in a hospitality or tourism organisation; ensuring the facilities of a hospitality or tourism organisation meets health, safety and environmental requirements and maintaining and developing the facilities of a hospitality or tourism organisation premises.
